October 10th is recognized as World Mental Health Day across the globe.
This day was created to bring awareness to mental health issues on an international stage, whilst encouraging efforts for the advancement of mental health services. This year’s theme is mental health in an unequal world.
The campaign highlights the inequity of access to mental health services people face across the world. The increasing disparities in access are particularly challenging to those facing discrimination due to their race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socio-economic status. Additionally, the stigma attached to living with a diagnosed mental health condition can impact an individual’s opportunities both within their career and education.
WHO (World Health Organization) reported that during this year’s World Health Assembly, leaders and governments from around the world recognized the need to scale up infrastructure and investment in mental health services. This year’s campaign will showcase some of the efforts made around the world to meet this need. Furthermore, it will provide valuable resources to individuals looking to make a positive impact in their immediate community.
On October 10th, join the global conversation and share your ideas on how to overcome these barriers.
